Another week, and another unscripted episode! With little to talk about headed into this week's episode, a very exhausted Nick and Justin jump in for yet another off-the-cuff episode of the Epic Film Guys podcast, where nothing is prepared ahead of time. How we manage to get from start to finish in this one is even stranger than a few weeks ago, but somehow we get there!

A couple days after recording, the Cinema Beat returns this week, and Justin is joined by regular contributor and friend of the show Bryan Loy to review a film opening in theaters this week, Don't Breathe! The guys had a chance to check out an advanced screening, and even if the summer's blockbusters have been more than lackluster, the horror films continue to impress two hardcore horrow fans, so you won't wanna miss this spoiler-free review.

We'll also take a fond look back at two films celebrating their 30th anniversaries this week, as Justin discusses Night of the Creeps, and both of the guys discuss their love for the incredible classic Rob Reiner film, Stand By Me. Our Dose of Dangerfield also returns this week with more stand-up from the comedy legend, and tons of other fun surprises you'll have to wait and hear for yourself. Stick around for the bloopers to see just how hard it was to get this week's show off the ground!

We begin this week's episode with some brief thoughts on the film Pete's Dragon and Justin recounts his trip to meet one of the greatest horror icons of all time, Mr. Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund! This week will also have a little bit of an unscripted flavor to it as I fly sans-outline, but after the jam-packed Suicide Squad episode last week, it was good to jump off the page again and just have a nice conversation.

We do, however, jump into a war-themed segment of Epic Previews this week as we dissect trailers for Star Wars: Rogue One, Arrival, Hacksaw Ridge, and Dunkirk. We're also playing your voice clips once again in our Fanviews segment- if you want to leave a message for the Epic Film Guys, please call the hotline at 607.444.1473! Anything goes!

To close out this week's show, we give a short review of the brand-new raunchy R-rated comedy Sausage Party from Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, and some internet issues will see the arrival of a fan favorite during the silence. Thanks very much for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!

Following off the heels of our completely unscripted episode, this week we've got a LOT of content to cover... so much that, for the first time ever, we welcome two different guests at the same time! The first you remember from our Deadpool episode, he has a YouTube channel called "Dan Sucks at Video Games" and we're thrilled to have him back- Mr. Dan Brenic is here! Dan will also be starting his own podcast soon with another of our sponsors, Caleb, called the Netflix n' Swill Podcast. Follow them on twitter @NetflixNSwill and find them on facebook. We're also happy to welcome a long-time friend of the show, Kevin Sampson from Picture Lock! Justin was on Picture Lock some months back and did a review of The Neon Demon for Picture Lock Radio.

This week, the big subject on everyone's mind is Suicide Squad! Yet another DCEU film has opened to a negative critical reception and a mixed fan reaction, and it has led to such things as attempted boycotting of Rotten Tomatoes and Warner Brothers, and Jared Leto has said there is enough Joker footage cut from Suicide Squad to make an entire Joker movie! We also know this isn't the film that theater owners and some fans had the chance to see back in May, which has led to a great deal of discussion about an "ultimate edition" of Suicide Squad as well, given the reaction to the BvS UE when it came out last month.

We're diving in and discussing everything this week- a full review of the film, a full discussion of the rumored "film that was," and talking about the future of the DCEU. No matter the reactions of some fans to the critics, it stands to reason that DC and WB cannot keep making films that are critically reviled and expect to stay financially viable, especially in light of the success (critically and commercially) of the Marvel cinematic universe. We'll also be delving into another round of Fanviews as our fans have voiced their opinions about Suicide Squad as well- and a ton of other fun surprises! Thanks very much for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!

Nick's Full Suicide Squad Review:

"All that chit-chat's gonna getcha hurt!" This is one of only a few scenes in David Ayer's Suicide Squad to feature the Joker, a character lost in a film whose ineptitude is mind-numbing. Coming off the critical drubbing that Batman v Superman received earlier this year, Warner Brothers went into panic mode, ordering a number of extensive reshoots to Ayer's Suicide Squad meant to brighten the film amid complaints that BvS was "too dark." Now that Suicide Squad itself has received a critical thrashing, one can't help but wonder if the artists behind BvS and SS are taking the brunt of the blame for meddling by nervous WB executives who are eager to catch up to Marvel in terms of quality, and more important, box office grosses. But I digress.

Suicide Squad is a disaster. It is DC's piss-poor attempt at doing the Marvel formula worse than Marvel could ever have tried. It attempts to force humor into dark subject matter, from dropping pop-y hits and classic songs throughout the first 1/3 of the film to try to lighten the mood as well as dropping Zombieland-esque text promts on-screen as a way of developing characters instead of letting the film do that for them. It opens as Amanda Waller (Viola Davis, a shining beacon as always) meets a government stooge at dinner and attempts to pitch her idea for "Task Force X," something she apparently tried to do prior to the death of Superman (in BvS), but now feels that it is more important than ever. This sequence is saddled with excruciatingly long flashbacks in which we get backstories for several major characters, including Deadshot (Will Smith) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and an actually-palatable Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang.

The cast in this film is fantastic, and that cannot be emphasized enough. These actors all showed up and acted their butts off- with a scant few exceptions- and it feels as though the production, or the studio, or something else failed them. Ayer's attention to character detail is as clear as day here. Everyone is fantastically cast, but the notable standouts in the cast are Viola Davis, who is amazing as the manipulative Waller, and Will Smith as Deadshot, who actually dials in a great performance as the man who never misses. Most reviews have lavished attention on Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, and she is set up to steal every scene she's in- most of which she does, to great effect- but her accent is uneven throughout the film and it is distracting (likely a result of coming back for reshoots, as it is only in some scenes). Joel Kinnaman is also a standout as Flag, and while the visualization of Enchantress was wonderful, Cara Delevingne really didn't have much to work with here. The film absolutely wastes a brilliant Jay Hernandez as Diablo, never really getting into the depths of this incredibly complex character. It similarly wastes the talents of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje by burying him under heavy makeup and having him say a gravelly quip now and again.

Jared Leto's Joker does NOT belong in this film. While this may earn some scorn, whatever role he was supposed to fulfill in this story was completely absent. Half of the time he showed up was in flashbacks for Harley Quinn's origin story, and the rest of the time it was some contrived mission to try to rescue Harley. Given the rumors that much of his screentime was cut in the final film, it is impossible to ignore them- he had a much bigger role and was to have a significant side plot running simultaneously with the A-plot, but most of this was eradicated, and half of the time it isn't even apparent he's in the movie at all until he returns. What is left is merely a distraction from the main plot of the film and not necessary, and in fact hogs several of the precious 123 minutes this story needed to develop itself. He'd have been better left on the cutting room floor altogether, rather than give us an interesting but ultimately fruitless taste of the iconic villain.

The film eventually limps its way into something of a plot, as the titular squad are assembled to fight down a massive threat. The second half of the film works better than the first half, since it actually develops some relationships between these villains, all of whom are constantly looking out for themselves (which was excellently done). The villain is a sack of wet dishrags and about as interesting- it is reminiscent of those in the MCU such as the vapid waste of space Christopher Eccleston played in Thor the Dark World. Absolutely no time is spent developing the character, showing that they are even remotely a threat, as even with fantastical powers the villain does mostly nothing with them and then flat-out ignores these powers during the final showdown because they're fighting against the main characters in the film.

Even with a great cast, with a great director in Ayer and a great visual feel from he and cinematographer Roman Vasyanov, the film simply falls in on itself. It forces needless backstory down the audience's throat in place of actual development for its characters so they are merely a list of criminal misdeeds rather than living, breathing characters in the DCEU. The film should have started with the Squad assembled and going on the mission, and then- as their relationships with one another and with Waller grew- explored the reason they ended up on the Squad in the first place, and how Waller manipulated them to that end. With a film THIS character-heavy, development of those characters and their relationships is even more important than a normal film. One can only hope that WB gives Ayer a chance to go back into the editing room with John Gilroy and turn out something that is even remotely acceptable, because this absolutely is not it. Four out of ten stars.

Unscripted and uncensored is the name of the game this week at the Epic Film Guys podcast! We head into this week's episode without any plans ahead of next week's colossal end-of-summer-movie-season episode with Dan Brenic & Kevin Sampson. So, instead, you'll get a little something different than you normally get from us; we're not droning on and on about this movie or that, but we're just having a fun movie conversation and a few beers like we did back in the day.

Through the episode, we do touch on a few poignant items, from anniversaries for Howard the Duck and Friday the 13th Part VI, and Justin gives his thoughts on the latest entry in the Bourne franchise, Jason Bourne. We also talk about our anticipation for Suicide Squad next week and some of our hopes for the film. We're also going to be attending a special event this Sunday, 08/07 at the Cinemark theater in Moosic, as the Epic Film Guys will see their favorite movie of all time on the big screen together- Batman '89. How will we contain ourselves when Eckhart arrives on-screen?

Also this week, the Fanview segment returns with two fan voicemails that have us scratching our heads. The Dose of Dangerfield is back as well!

This week, we're actually tossing movies out the window for a change as we welcome regular contributor and friend of the show, Bryan Loy, and the three of us dig into the new Netflix 80s horror thriller, Stranger Things! We've got a full review of all eight episodes of the series and we want to invite you to join us for this fantastic new show. The review is quite spoiler-filled, so if you're looking to avoid it until you finish the series yourself (which you MUST do!), then the segment runs from 15:20 to 55:00.

This week we've also got four trailers coming your way as part of Epic Previews. San Diego Comic Con was this past week, and instead of waiting for things to leak, the studios are out ahead of the game and have released the Comic Con trailers online to coincide with the event. Thus, we're going to be talking Justice League, Wonder Woman, the new trailer for Doctor Strange, and wrapping things up with the colossal Kong: Skull Island. We'll also be touching on the rest of the news from the week, including the casting of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel

Another thing we want to announce is that we're bringing back last week's fan reviews segment because it was so popular, and it will return every week that we get clips as a regular segment we're calling FanViews! Every week, you can shoot us a quick 60-90 second review of whatever film we're reviewing for that week (or whatever you want!) and we'll include your thoughts as part of the segment. We want to thank everyone who responded positively to this segment and encourage anyone out there listening to take part in the future. Meanwhile, after weeks of harassment about the now-infamous "sausage" clip, the weekly Charles Bronson has been shelved. I'd tell you by what, but if I told you then you'd probably get no respect, no respect at all! Thanks for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!

Stranger Things stars:

Winona Ryder as Joyce
David Harbour as Chief Hopper
Finn Wolfhard as Mike
Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven
Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin
Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas
Noah Schnapp as Will
Natalia Dyer as Nancy
Shannon Purser as Barb
Charlie Heaton as Jonathan
Cara Buono as Karen
Joe Keery as Steve
Matthew Modine as Dr. Brenner

Podcasting... the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Epic Film Guys podcast. Her ongoing mission: To explore strange new films... to seek out new listeners and new, exciting content... to boldly go where no podcast has gone before! This week we're talking all things Star Trek with our full review of Star Trek: Beyond, the third film in the reboot trilogy started back in 2009 with JJ Abrams' Star Trek. Abrams, of course, departed the Trek franchise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so director Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 3-6) has stepped in to take the reins.

We joined our brother podcast out of Perth, Australia for a spoiler-free review and discussion of the film this past weekend- check out that episode here. This minisode will go a bit further in depth than we did on the Countdown and we've got our full, spoiler-filled review of Star Trek: Beyond for your ears. Our normal episode will still land tomorrow morning (07/28/16), featuring a full review of the new Netflix series Stranger Things with Bryan Loy, and a breakdown of San Diego Comic-Con's flood of news and trailers in Epic Previews. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!

Nick's Full Star Trek: Beyond Review:

Star Trek: Beyond is the third film in the reboot series that began in 2009 with JJ Abrams reboot/sequel, which used an incredibly clever script to both adhere to and separate itself from the established Star Trek canon, which now spans some fifty years and another new series headed to television next year. It was a stellar film, and its sequel, Star Trek into Darkness, was even better- it flipped the script for Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan on its head, further showing how the changes to the continuity in 2009 will lead to radically different futures for the original Trek crew. It looked at the danger of a militarized Starfleet searching for war among the stars and offers a scathing criticism of the pre-emptive war mindset of the modern-day military-industrial complex.

Enter Justin Lin, of Fast & Furious 3-6 fame, to step in for the departing Abrams (who, of course, went on to Star Wars Episode VII). Three years into its five-year mission, the Enterprise stops at the Yorktown Federation outpost to take supplies. We catch up with the crew, from Kirk, Spock, Bones, Uhura, Chekov, Scotty, and Sulu; seems that Kirk is feeling as though the vastness of space is consuming him. Bones is as sarcastic and quippy as ever (Karl Urban remains the greatest casting choice in a stellar cast). Spock and Uhura are on the outs, while Chekov (the tragically late Anton Yelchin) is now taking a page from Kirk's womanizing book. Scotty is eccentric as ever, and Sulu is gay, but the film pays zero attention to this factoid- despite its condemnation by, of all people, George Takei (the original Sulu, who came out several years ago). Yet, it feels no more out of place than anything else in this film- after all, what is Star Trek if not a totally-inclusive, non-judgmental society? Now more than ever, we find this ideal incredibly present in all of our minds.

The Enterprise heads through a nebula at the behest of Kalara, who claims her ship has crashed on a planet on the other side. On passing through they are instead attacked by a swarm of small ships that make quick work of the Enterprise, because firing a photon torpedo into the swarm and shooting it to cause a big explosion or even ejecting the warp core like they did in the first friggin' moving and making that explode would be far too complicated and would work against the requirements of the plot. The crew winds up on the planet, split off into several groups, which works extremely well for the most part- Kirk and Chekov have a wonderful chemistry, but the pairing of Spock and Bones is simply brilliant every time the pair arrives on-screen.

Scotty, meanwhile, is paired with a mysterious character named Jaylah, who reveals that she too was marooned on the planet by Krall's forces some time ago, and she enlists Scotty's help to fix an old Federation ship that also crashed on the planet. We get some mysterious nuggets of dialogue that allude to a deeper backstory to her character, but the film never bothers to develop her into anything beyond a cool-looking badass who can definitely hold her own in a fight. Who is she? Who cares, that's who. She actually get a hefty chunk of screentime as well, so much so that she fights against "Manas"- Krall's right hand and the person who killed her parents, apparently- and the fight drags on and on and on. These characters aren't even remotely developed, so every moment they're on screen they make for silly, pointless moments that distract the audience from the fact that the Enterprise crew- the characters we actually care about- are in danger.

The film is the most "Star Trek" of the three films in the reboot series, and as an avid fan of TNG and DS9 it was great to see the film return to that feeling, and it should be enough to warm the heart of any Trek fan. That said, this film did its best to emulate the bad things about the worst of Trek- the worst of the original films, for example- and ends up a deflated flapping mess by the end. The Enterprise crew escapes the planet by "jump starting" a starship how? A car works by jump-starting because the wheels are contacting the ground, providing energy to the vehicle as they turn, which allows the engine to turn over and sustain itself. So how precisely does this work when a starship falls off a cliff?!

Then, the film culminates in a Deus Ex Machina set to the tune of the Beastie Boys, wherein a plot contrivance that makes absolutely no sense pops up and completely eliminates the swarm of ships in an instant, even though the plot never makes the logical connection to this outcome even when it is setting it up. Meantime, an 11th hour reveal that Krall is actually a former Starfleet captain who was once a soldier but is unable to stop living in the past has turned him into a monster, in one of the most hideously mismanaged and mangled attempts at giving the film some thematic heft before it ends. The theme wants to be about the role of the soldier in peacetime. It could have done more vis-a-vis the idea of PTSD and helping to transition soldiers into peacetime, and doubled down on the idea of peace versus perpetual war. Much more needs to be done to help soldiers with their demons from the horrors of war, to cope with their PTSD, and to help them lead normal lives. Yet this theme is tacked-on literally at the film's climax to try to stick some empathy onto the main villain who has, to this point, been a one-note "Starfleet bad" bad guy whose motivations were completely unknown to anyone.

The film does enough right by the cast of the reboot trilogy, even if it is a touch predictable (like Kirk and Spock are ever going to walk away from the Enterprise), that it still resonates, at least at times. It closes on a touching moment that will definitely tug the heart strings of any Star Trek fan, but it is too packed with ham and cheese to be the thoroughly engaging film that its predecessors were. 5/10.

This week, we're far less concerned with structure and more concerned with having a great time! We'll open the show talking about our weekends, and Justin recounts his trip to Washington D.C. to meet horror legend John Carpenter. We also pay homage to James Cameron's Aliens, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary on the recording date, and to The Dark Knight, which celebrated its 8th. Some friends of the show return, and we feature a brand-new segment this week, as I edit your mini-reviews of Paul Feig's Ghostbusters.

On the heels of our commentary of the original Ghostbusters last week, this week we're diving headlong into a full review of the 2016 reboot, directed by Paul Feig and starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. However, we won't be doing it alone! This week we are joined by Emmy-winning film critic Jackson Murphy of Lights-Camera-Jackson! We are proud to be participating in the LCJ POD-A-THON, in which Jackson is appearing on numerous shows over a five-day period to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Before he signs off, we'll talk to him about the summer movie season thusfar and ask what he's looking forward to for the rest of 2016. Catch Jackson's full review of Ghostbusters on his website: http://lights-camera-jackson.com/ghostbusters-pg-13.php. Once Jackson signs off, we launch into a more in-depth review and discussion of the new Ghostbusters film, as I read from my written review while Justin chimes in to agree or disagree.

Thanks for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!

The phone-in topic Today: "Ghosts and Ghostbusting." The controversy builds, more sightings are reported, some maintain that these professional paranormal eliminators in New York are the cause of it all.

That's right film fans... as promised some time back, it's time for another audio commentary, and this week- on the release day of the reboot, no less- we're doing a full-length commentary of Ivan Reitman's immortal classic, 1984's Ghostbusters! Of course starring Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, Annie Potts, and William Atherton, this film is a classic in absolutely every sense of the word, with unforgettable performances and a movie that is quoteable from beginning to end. It sits high atop the list of films that I have seen hundreds of times, and could watch a hundred more and never get tired of it. It is so layered with amazing comedy that it still causes movie-goers to laugh uncontrollably some thirty plus years later.

If you're trying to listen to our commentary along with the film, the audio track is synchronized with the very start of the film, so just start them both at the same time!

Some facts about Ghostbusters:

~AFI's 100 Years, 100 Laughs list... #28
~IGN's Greatest Comedy Ever in 2005.
~Funniest Movie of the past 25 Years by Entertainment Weekly in 2006.
~Total Film's readers voted the film the 44th greatest comedy of all time in 2000.
~The film was also selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2015.

~Ackroyd & Ramis originally wrote roles for John Belushi (Venkman) and John Candy (Louis Tully). John Candy did not commit to the project, which led to Rick Moranis being cast, and after Belushi died, Bill Murray came on board.

~John Candy's original concept for Louis Tully was that the character should be German, and own two dogs. These concepts were rejected, leading to Candy's rejection of the part.

~Eddie Murphy was the actor originally considered for the part of Winston.

~Slavitza Jovan played Gozer, but she did not voice her- the voice was done by Paddi Edwards.

~Slimer was intended to be a tribute to John Belushi, specifically his character Bluto from Animal House.

~Gozer was originally to have been Ivo Shandor, a slender man in a business suit, played by Paul Reubens. This was the form taken by Ivo Shandor in the video game that came out in 2009, wherein Shandor was revealed to have been the architect of the slime tunnels used in Ghostbusters II as well.

~Pauline Kael said of the film, "Murray is the film's comic mechanism ... but nobody else has much in the way of material, and since there's almost no give-and-take among the three men, Murray's lines fall on dead air."

~Ivan Reitman provided the voice of Slimer, as well as the voice of Zuul when Dana is possessed by the evil spirit.

~Mr. Stay Puft's marshmallow was actually shaving cream!

~Last year, Ernie Hudson revealed that the character of Winston was originally in the script from the beginning as an Air Force demolitions expert, but the part was trimmed considerably in the script he was given the night before shooting started. He said, "I love the character and he’s got some great lines, but I felt the guy was just kind of there. I love the movie, I love the guys. I’m very thankful to Ivan for casting me. I’m very thankful that fans appreciate the Winston character. But it’s always been very frustrating—kind of a love/hate thing, I guess."

Thanks for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!

Come with me if you want to live. It seems only fitting that our first show of year two should mirror the first-ever show of the Epic Film Guys podcast, wherein I reviewed Terminator: Genisys. Tonight, myself and Justin step back in time and discuss what we so dearly love about the iconic Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which celebrated its 25th anniversary on July 3rd. This week, we'll be counting down our favorite five scenes from James Cameron's iconic action flick.

Regular contributor and friend of the show, Bryan Loy, makes a return appearance in this week's Cinema Beat segment as he and Justin take down The Legend of Tarzan, about which Justin makes a very bold statement. He also takes a few minutes and gives a glowing recommendation for The Shallows, which he also had a chance to check out this week.

With one year officially behind us, we're moving ahead and are happy to announce that the Epic Film Guys podcast has nothing but bigger and better things planned, and many of those plans are for current and future appearances. Our next highly-anticipated crossover with The Countdown Movie and TV reviews on their July 25th/26th show. Nick will also be appearing on a charity 24-hour livestream of Chrono Trigger by the Nickscast, a great show from three Canadian Nicks as they play through the classic SNES RPG for charity and attempt to get every single ending.

Earlier this week I appeared on the New Trick Podcast, where host Steve attempted to take me to task over my numerous rants about Marvel's villains- and actually defends Independence Day: Resurgence! I'll be a guest (again) on an upcoming episode of World of Ro where I further discussed podcasting and my passion for films (among other things), and last but not least, several weeks back we announced that we'd received an award from Lisa of the Our Story Podcast, and I actually had the chance to sit down with her and talk about the origins of the Epic Film Guys podcast and broke down our process in terms of producing and creating the show. Look for all these (and more!) great appearances coming in the next couple months! Thanks so much for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!!

We welcome our host and moderator, Emily of the Classy Little Podcast, back to the show to guide us through all of these amazing fan questions. At long last, Fan Celebration 2.0 has finally arrived! We answer all of your questions, fifty-six of them in all! We welcome our host and moderator, Emily of the Classy Little Podcast, back to the show to guide us through all of these amazing fan questions. We had nearly three hours of raw audio for this week's show, between the Independence Day: Resurgence review and the celebration, so we had to cut this thing into THREE episodes! The minisode dropped this past Monday, and we'll be dropping Part 1 in our normal timeslot Thursday morning, followed by Part 2 a mere twenty-four hours later.

A huge, huge thank you to everyone who submitted questions for this episode:

In this special minisode, Nick and Justin take turns flogging away at Independence Day: Resurgence, a dismal disappointment of a film that not only fails to live up to the glory of its predecessor, but locks it deep inside a bunker somewhere and then blows the bunker up. We had a lot to say about this one, so we didn't want to try to squeeze it in with the massive fan celebration, still landing this Thursday! Thanks for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!

Justin begins this week by talking about a great opportunity he had this week to check out Nicholas Winding Refn's newest film, The Neon Demon, at the Washington D.c. premiere of the film. A big thanks and shout-out to our friend Kevin Sampson over at Picture Lock for this great opportunity! He will also briefly touch on Finding Dory as we look ahead to this weekend and Independence Day: Resurgence. We will also have a special moment today to remember Ron Lester, whose voice rings in the "What are you drinkin'?" segment each week, and Anton Yelchin, both of whom passed away this past week.

After a few weeks of an absence of trailers, Epic Previews is BACK this week with four huge trailers! We've got the second trailer for the remake of Ben Hur, the Alexander Skarsgård & Michael Peña buddy cop action comedy War on Everyone, the feature trailer for Pete's Dragon (with our first actual look at the dragon!) and finally, we've got the trailer for the latest horror flick from Rob Zombie, 31

This week's episode lands on June 23rd, and we'll be recording Fan Celebration 2.0 TOMORROW, if you're reading this on release day! That means you've only got ONE MORE DAY to get us those questions ahead of the recording! Send us your questions, by any means possible- call/text the hotline at 607.444.1473, email us at epicfilmguysny@gmail.com, or find @EpicFilmGuys on twitter, instagram, and facebook. Tonight's podcast begins on something of a somber note, as we reflect on the tragedy at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando only days ago. As we move into the show proper we ask that our audience reflect on this tragedy and to just let go of hate. There is so much hate, so much negativity in this world, and people are all too willing to arbitrarily take life over it. Enough is enough. I fear for the sanity of our collective species that any person can take or construct a weapon and murder a group of people simply because they're different. We don't want to politicize anything here and we're certainly not going to touch on guns, terrorists, or the sort. We just hope and pray that everyone can find some measure of peace and love and respect and stop this absolute senselessness. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family and friends of the Orlando tragedy.

With that said, we've certainly got a lot to cover in tonight's show... so much that we had to bring back special guest and friend of the show, Bryan Loy from Ten Bucks a Throw! Toward the top of the show, he and Justin will give a brief review of The Conjuring 2 in Justin's Cinema Beat, as they both had a chance to check out the horror sequel while I've yet to even see the first one. It also won the weekend box office with a $40 million haul domestically!

Tonight's main event, however, will feature this week's domestic box office runner-up, the video game-to-film adaptation Warcraft! The film crashed and burned domestically this weekend with a paltry $24 million on a sky-high $160 million budget. All is not lost for the Warcraft franchise, however, as the film has grossed nearly $300 million internationally, including a record-breaking $145 million and counting at the Chinese box office. Given this it has nearly doubled its budget already, so I expect a sequel announcement to come very soon.

Also this week, we've got some updates on Fan Celebration 2.0, where we are now accepting film questions as well! Send us ALL of your questions, by any means possible- call/text the hotline at 607.444.1473, email us at epicfilmguysny@gmail.com, or find @EpicFilmGuys on twitter, instagram, and facebook. We need your submissions by June 24th in order to make the show! I've also got a couple surprises planned that should make for a wonderful show.

Cowabunga, baby! This week's review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is prefaced by scathing reviews of the 2014 reboot from myself and Justin. Despite our extremely generous scores, it is quite obvious that we loathed that film. We went into this sequel not really knowing what to expect, but safe to say we at least enjoyed this film more than the 2014 debacle. How much more? Give a listen and find out!

This week's show kicks off with Nick's rant about renting the comedy film Sisters, starring Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Not that he didn't enjoy the film, but what on Earth is with the "rental" Blu-Ray? Hollywood has and will ever be in the business of making money, but this is taking things to absurd heights.

Last week on the show, we announced that we'd be recording our Fan Celebration 2.0 this month! I reached out to Emily from the Classy Little Podcast, who has graciously accepted and will be joining us to mediate the Q&A once again. Remember, you've got until June 27th to get us your questions (non-film-related only!!) for the celebration! We'd love to hear from you! Also this week, we'll touch on the news of the Rogue One reshoots and we'll briefly discuss our anticipation for the ultimate edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And, Ecto-Cooler is back! Justin managed to snag some for himself, and he'll tell you all about it as well as his once-in-a-lifetime meeting with Batman & Robin themselves. All that, plus our first-ever award for podcasting, an Archer live-action film, and John Boyega joins the cast of Pacific Rim II- but do the boys even care?

X-Men: Apocalypse is proving to be the second comic book film of 2016 that is divisive between both critics and fans, and many on both sides of the line are standing by slinging mud back and forth already. Again, the chorus of "give the rights back to Marvel" has begun, and with this being the last film in the trilogy that started with First Class, what is the future of FOX's mutant franchise? We'll weigh in with our spoiler-filled review of Apocalypse as we look to what comes next.

It has been a very busy week in the world of film, and the Epic Film Guys are here to run down all the week's news and talk about everything and anything. In this week's Epic Previews segment, we're taking a look at that new Ghostbusters international trailer and defending the film once again from people who seem bound and determined to hate it. Other reviewers have flat-out boycotted the film and refuse to review it, and we'll also weigh in on that controversy. We're also reviewing that latest awesome Star Trek: Beyond trailer, and taking a look at the teaser for Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson.

Last week we mentioned some contests and giveaways, and this week we'll elaborate on those a bit more. We're steadily barreling toward our 1-year podiversary, and we've got some big plans for that episode. With that said, we're going to start looking for YOUR opinions on the show, what you'd like us to change, what you'd like us to keep, and anything else you might like to see from the Epic Film Guys. We do this show because we love movies and we love our fans, so if there's something you'd love to hear, please let us know!

We've been busy spreading our wings of late, and now that my wedding and honeymoon are over, we're getting out there and teaming up with other podcasts as often as possible. Listen for us on the season finale of Pat and Jason Have a Podcast, listen for me in a short segment on this week's Classy Little Podcast, and you can hear me in the cold open for episode 18 of the World of Ro Podcast. You'll also be able to hear me guest-hosting over on Poop Culture, where I'll join Rick Mancrush for his interview with Greg Lamberson, director of the B-movie classic Slime City and his latest horror comedy Killer Rack. We'll also be featured on Podbean (our host) for the week of May 30th! Thank you so much to everyone for sponsoring and supporting us.

Last but most certainly not least, Justin and myself both got the chance to see the latest from director Shane Black: The Nice Guys! Starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, the film most certainly left an impression on us, and we want to let you know how we felt about it. Our review is a bit spoiler-y, so if you want to avoid it until you've seen the film, the review begins at 12:00 and ends at 30:30. And, in a quick segment for Justin's Cinema Beat, he'll give his thoughts on the comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising

We are BACK, ladies and gentlemen! We did drop the bloopers episode last week while I was sunning myself down in beautiful Punta Cana, but this will be my first official episode recording as a married man. It was a great wedding and reception and a really relaxing honeymoon, and we take a few moments to discuss some of the finer points of the last week and a half right at the top of the show this week before we jump into the meat of this week's episode.

Civil War is upon us! With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice now behind us and extremely divisive, we turn our attention to the much-better-received Captain America: Civil War. We are especially outspoken critics of the Marvel formula, especially myself- did this film break the Marvel mold? Can a Marvel film impress me enough to get a rating above a "pretty decent" 7/10? You'll have to listen to find out! We'll also look back to two weeks ago and our Civil War wish lists, and see if we got what we wished for before we had a chance to see the film.

This week, we're also looking to the future of Epic Film Guys, particularly to new content and a new contest! Would you like to win a $25 AMC theaters gift card? All you need to do is listen to the Epic Film Guys podcast! More details to come, but your first chance to will will be our Thursday, June 2nd episode. Stay tuned!

Finally this week in Epic Previews, we'll be dissecting some new trailers (or at least new to us, since I've been away). We're taking a look at the first official trailer for the video game adaptation Assassin's Creed, starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. We'll also be reviewing The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck, J.K. Simmons, Anna Kendrick, John Lithgow, and Jeffrey Tambor, and looking at the creepy teaser for The Woods, the new horror thriller from director Adam Wingard being hailed as one of the scariest movies ever made.

Long-promised and much-anticipated, the blooper show has arrived! I didn't want to miss an episode release just because I'm sunning myself in beautiful Punta Cana this week on my honeymoon, so I decided to throw together a massive clip show featuring all of the bloopers, outtakes, and cut segments that I've got lying around from months and months of recording the podcast. It allows a bit of a peek into the behind-the-scenes production of the podcast and how we do our lead-outs and lead-ins, how we synch our recording tracks, and how we flub lines- intentionally or otherwise- and it breaks everything down.

First up in the episode is a heated debate between Justin & James of the Classy Little Podcast, after James dismissed Justin's notion that Sylvester Stallone was one of the "great creative minds" in the film industry. This couldn't make the cut in the Oscars episode since that was already running way too long, but I thought I'd save it and play it here, since we definitely get passionate from time to time about our favorite films and our favorite film stars.

As the episode rolls on, we'll hear some lead-in bloopers and outtakes, as we can never quite seem to nail the lead-in to the episode or different segments on the first take. Sometimes I even try to get a little bit fancy or do something unique, and it almost always fails. Enjoy clips in this section that also feature our good friend (and guest on the show) Dan Brenic as well as our brothers in Perth, Paul & Wayne from The Countdown. We'll also have an audio tribute with a whole slew of Lisp outtakes.

Lastly, I decided to include another video from the EFG video days, this being our visit to the Zombie Walk in Binghamton in 2014. You can check out this great video over at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCy_vJ1O_ow. It's a shame that the guy we had partnered up with turned out to be a complete flake, because this was a lot of fun, and I really feel like Epic Film Guys could've gone in a completely different direction. But then, would we even be the Epic Film Guys podcast if that were the case? We'll never know.

With Marvel's Captain America: Civil War opening in theaters nationwide tonight, we decide to take some time to discuss our wish list for Civil War and count down our five biggest wishes. I'll be seeing the show tonight, and Justin will have likely already seen it by then. We won't be able to review the film in full for a couple weeks yet due to my wedding and honeymoon which are speeding toward me, so hopefully this will sate you, dear listeners, as you await our review show. Next week's show will be the much-discussed blooper episode, which packs its share of surprises and funny moments.

This week, Justin's Cinema Beat returns, and he is joined by Bryan Loy from Ten Bucks a Throw to review two different films! First, they'll discuss Richard Linklater's latest film, Everybody Wants Some, before discussing the very Kubrick-inspired thriller High Rise.

The episode this week wraps up with the guys discussing the villain Apocalypse from the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse and the fanboy reaction that they were somehow responsible for changing his look. Yet, according to the cover of EW, he's always been the same color! We'll weigh in on this, as well as hearing director Bryan Singer's thoughts on the controversy as well.

RESURGENCE! That's the word of the day as we review not one, but two trailers with that subtitle in tonight's Epic Previews segment. We look at the only-being-released-in-Japan Toho reboot of Godzilla with Godzilla: Resurgence, and the twenty-years-in-the-making sequel to Independence Day, Independence Day: Resurgence. We'll also take a look at The Magnificent Seven teaser as well as the final trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse

More and more tragedy seems to strike the world of entertainment these days, and none so big as the loss of music legend Prince. In this episode we'll feature three pieces from his illustrious career, two of them from the Batman 1989 soundtrack - "Trust" and "Partyman," while the third will close out the show in the form of "When Doves Cry." Justin also has a few words to say about this iconic star as we bid him a fond farewell.

Also this week, we look back at my bachelor party from last weekend and talk about the fun shenangians that ensued throughout the weekend, from the head of Patrick Swayze to watching half of Roadhouse. All in all a great weekend, but my voice certainly paid the price.

We had the opportunity and privilege to check out the latest of Disney's live-action film adaptations, this time in Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book. In our Epic Previews segment tonight, we'll be reviewing the trailer for Nicholas Winding Refn's newest film, Neon Demon. It was a pretty slow week for trailers leading up to the recording, so be sure to check back next week for more great new trailers!

The theater industry is something near and dear to us here on the Epic Film Guys podcast, since we spend so much time in theaters watching movies. The experience is nigh unreplaceable, as far as we are concerned. Yet, with announcements of late that a theater chain even considered (and quickly rescinded) texting in the theaters and, as Sean Parker's Screening Room gains supporters and detractors, is the theatrical experience on its way out? We'll discuss the controvery surrounding Parker's latest venture and what impact it might have on the industry.

Marvel v. DC!! With the release of Batman v Superman a few weeks ago and the impending release of Captain America: Civil War, the fanboys are at a fever pitch, throwing insults across the aisle at one another and their respective franchises. With the critical thrashing that BvS received and the extremely vocal minority of fans and audiences that hated it, everyone was quick to seize upon any news that DC's plans were crumbling before their very eyes. We took a week off from the superhero fare, but now we're ready to jump into the fray and dispel the falsehoods and embrace the truths and examine the state of the DCEU and the MCU. Are those Suicide Squad reshoot rumors a knee-jerk reaction? What else is DC changing in the wake of BvS? With advanced word that Civil War is the "best Marvel film yet," can DC recover from two very divisive films? Justice League started filming three days ago, with Snyder once again at the helm. Is the DCEU safe under his leadership?

Ever the cinephile, Justin had the opportunity to check out Hardcore Henry and went to an advanced screening of Green Room this past week. We'll get his thoughts and reviews of both films in a brand new segment, Justin's Cinema Beat! Whenever Justin gets a chance to check out a film at an advanced screening, we'll feature all of his reviews right here.

Speaking of segments, in the Epic Previews segment tonight we'll be discussing two of the biggest trailers to land over the past two weeks- the "blitz" trailer for Suicide Squad and the teaser for Rogue One: A Star Wars story, which may be the worst film title of any film in recent memory. We'll also discuss the Doctor Strange trailer, which was scheduled to land during the recording of the podcast.

What are YOU drinking? Last week during our Batman v Superman review, we announced that we'd be temporarily postponing the segment in the lead-up to my wedding next month. After a very vocal fanbase cried out to keep the segment in place, I decided to run a poll on our twitter page, and you responded with a resounding: KEEP DRINKING!! With over 75% of the votes in the affirmative, "What're you drinkin'?" will remain the opening segment of the Epic Film Guys podcast for a long time to come, and we'll just have to cut out a few drinks elsewhere to make up for it.

Speaking of our fans, through twitter this week I asked for listeners to submit questions, and we did get a few to respond to! We'll discuss films that we'd refuse to watch under penalty of death, as well as our best & worst theater-going experiences and potential villains for Man of Steel 2, which we're less and less likely to get with the critical thrashing Batman v Superman received.

This week will see the return of our Epic Previews segment, in which we'll be taking a look at a few trailers that have landed since last time we did the segment. We review the Lego Batman teasers, the newest trailer for the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, the surreal comedy Swiss Army Man starring Daniel Radcliffe, Paul Dano, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Blood Father, the Jean-François Richet directed thriller starring Mel Gibson and William H. Macy.

Speaking of Mel Gibson, we'll also briefly discuss his currently-in-post-production Hacksaw Ridge, directed by Gibson and starring himself with Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington, Hugo Weaving & Gibson himself. Garfield plays WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first Conscientious Objector in American history to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Last, but most certainly not least, we finish off this episode with the long-awaited second part of our Batman 1989 commentary! We'll be putting the finishing touches on the second half of the film and releasing the entire commentary very shortly in the future. In the meantime, if there are other commentary tracks you'd love to hear us on, let us know! We'll be happy to record them for your listening pleasure.

"Twenty years in Gotham, how many good guys are left? How many stayed that way?" We couldn't have predicted it at the time, but Zack Snyder managed to make a film even more divisive than his 2013 Man of Steel with the follow-up, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which serves the dual purpose of being a sequel to Man of Steel while introducing elements for a DC comics shared cinematic universe, including Batman and Wonder Woman. The critics have lambasted it, but its box office is still doing well and the audience seems to be reacting much more positively.

In this full episode review, Nick and Justin dissect Batman v Superman to its very core to get to the heart of its characters and its story. We'll take a look at the criticisms swirling around the film and address them as necessary, as well as offering our own. We also address our favorite things about the film before stamping it with a rating that rarely ever happens on this podcast. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!

Today is a day for truth... the truth about our love of Zack Snyder's very divisive 2013 mega blockbuster Man of Steel. Suffice to say myself and Justin love this film, and while others may disagree, we took it upon ourselves to lay out several of the criticisms most-often cited in this film and dissect them one at a time. I also asked twitter what their one biggest criticism of the film was, and we take some time to address them- or at the very least, have a good laugh at them.

Though our Man of Steel discussion takes up a majority of the runtime, it is not alone! We also take a look at the Captain America: Civil War trailer in this week's Epic Previews, and we'll discuss the news of a fifth Indiana Jones film, which has re-opened many old wounds regarding the last film in the franchise.

Last but not least, I want to personally thank @mpearce6, @YogurtPodcast, @roelsantosjr, @BrentleyDOliver, @reelcomicheroes, @TheMidside, and our great friend Paul @thecountdownpc for contributing to our Man of Steel show with an audio clip discussing their love (or lack thereof) for the film. Also, a huge thanks to everyone who responded on twitter!

And if you're hearing this on release day, dear listener, then I am in Virginia with Epic Film Guy Justin and we'll be seeing Batman v Superman at 7:00 PM. Our FULL Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice review episode will land next week with a lot of fun surprises that I hope to put together. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you at the movies!

Our normal episode will drop this Thursday and it is all about Man of Steel, as we finish up our Batman & Superman retrospectives on the day that Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice opens up in theaters. We'll be there opening night, and after we see it the second time the next morning we'll be sitting down to record an in-depth review. Stay tuned, and we'll see you at the movies!

"You're the one pointing the gun Harvey; so point it at the people responsible." After Batman & Robin laid a huge egg at the box office, Batman vanished from theaters for nearly ten years until he was rebooted in 2005's Batman Begins, from mostly indie auteur Christopher Nolan. Ten years and billions in box office later, his Dark Knight Trilogy is lauded as a pinnacle in superhero cinema and cinema in general, earning the first and only Academy Award win for acting for a superhero film. As the Joker so rightly says- and Justin also eagerly points out- "You've changed things. Forever. There's no goin' back." While it has become somewhat fashionable of late to hate on Nolan's Batman, rest assured that no one here is going to drag them through too much mud.

This episode was far too big to do alone, however, so we called on our friends and brothers in podcasting, the Countdown Movie and TV reviews podcast, to help us rate these films and discuss their finer (and lesser) points. We are also joined in-studio by a good friend of mine and a big fan of Batman, Mr. Brentley Oliver! Thank you very much to Paul, Wayne, and Brentley for being on the show and helping us out with today's show.

Also this week, we're going to take a look at Bryan Singer's oft-derided Superman Returns, and attempt to answer the questions that have nagged this film and its production for a decade. Was it a sequel? Reboot? Remake? No matter what it was, the most important thing to note is it was not a success, which killed Superman as a franchise until Zack Snyder's Man of Steel was released in 2013. Yet, it does have its redeeming qualities for most of us, so we'll examine all of it here.

Next week's episode will be our final show before the release of Batman v. Superman, and since Justin is seeing it early, we're recording a week early to avoid any spoilers. We'll be reviewing 10 Cloverfield Lane as well as the latest trailer for Captain America: Civil War, and we're taking a look back at Man of Steel and responding to YOUR criticisms of that film in a very special retrospective.

Thanks as always for listening, and please head to twitter and check out #PodernFamily for more great shows like the promos you heard today. Thank you for your support, and we'll see you at the movies!

"I want you to do me a favor: I want you to tell all your friends about me." This week is a very special podcast for both myself and Justin as we finally sat down and recorded our feature-length commentary for Tim Burton's iconic Batman. This is a commentary we've wanted to do for years, but we could just never get the stars to align. Hear the first part today and look forward to the next part in an upcoming show. Once we've aired all four parts, you'll be able to listen to the entire live commentary when we drop that file all on its own!

As we continue to count down the days leading up to Batman v Superman, we turn our attention from the man of steel to the dark knight this week and focus on all things Batman! We're reviewing each of the four films made from 1989 - 1997, from Burton's 1989 masterpiece to the trainwreck that was Schumacher's Batman & Robin. Or is it? Take a listen to our thoughts on that famously bad film and see if you agree, and don't forget to stay 'till the end!

This week we're back with a new trailer for Epic Previews, and it is the trailer that is on everyone's mind at this point- Ghostbusters. We'll break down all the important points in the trailer and address the numerous controversies surrounding this film, as well as setting the record straight against a large number of fans who are determined not to give this flick a chance. Where do you land? Join the discussion over at http://www.facebook.com/epicfilmguys!

Next week, we will be joined by our brothers Wayne and Paul from Perth for our second crossover, and this one WILL be one for the ages- we're going to dissect the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy, and as a special treat (for everyone except for Paul), we're going to be reviewing Bryan Singer's 2006 film Superman Returns. All of this leads up to our Man of Steel retrospective, which lands on the very day that we'll be seeing the sequel live.

Thanks as always for listening, and please head to twitter and check out #PodernFamily for more great shows like the promos you heard today. Thank you for your support, and we'll see you at the movies!

"Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!" Tonight's podcast is all about the indomitable Man of Steel as played by the legendary Christopher Reeve in four different films. The legendary Marlon Brando played Jor-El, Gene Hackman hammed it up as the maniacal Lex Luthor, and Margot Kidder fawned over the last son of Krypton from the moment he arrived. The series also starred Jackie Cooper, Terence Stamp, Susannah York, Marc McClure, and many more! Tonight, it's all about SUPERMAN!

First, we'll be focusing on Richard Donner's iconic first film and the second major motion picture featuring the character of Superman (behind 1951's Superman and the Mole Men). We'll look at the good and bad features of the film, and ask whether or not the film still holds up even today. Then, we'll take a look at the sequel, Superman II. Nick forced himself to suffer through the original Richard Lester cut, but both of the guys have seen the Donner cut that was released in 2006. Which is better?

Then, we'll take a turn toward the darker days of Superman with Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. While Christopher Reeve was still in the title role and gave it his best effort, many would agree that both of these films (particularly four) destroyed the Superman brand in film and caused him to be absent from it for nearly twenty years. What went wrong with these sequels? We'll analyze them both!

Along with our analysis of all four of these films, we'll also be rating them and discussing other great aspects of the productions, such as John Williams' iconic score to the legendary Marlon Brando starring as Superman's father. And not to worry, though we are not discussing Superman Returns this week, we'll be featuring a discussion on that film in two weeks with the guys from the Countdown, Paul and Wayne.

Last but certainly not least, we'll briefly touch on our thoughts of the Oscars and of the winners and losers. Remember, you can see all of our Oscar picks and the winners at our website, http://www.epicfilmguys.com/oscars-2016. We'll also discuss Justin's appearance on the Picture Lock show last weekend, and look ahead to some upcoming appearances as well. No Epic Previews segment this week, sadly, but look for it to return next week when we tackle the upcoming trailer for Ghostbusters, which should land the same day as this podcast!

Hollywood's biggest night is fast-approaching this Sunday at 7 PM, and the only way to do an event THIS big was to do our biggest episode ever! To do that, we are joining forces with the Classy Little Podcast to discuss everything Oscars in our massive Oscar BLOWOUT! This, however, is more than just a crossover- we're mashing both shows together, so you'll hear your favorite segments from us and some great segments from James and Emily. In fact, you may have already listened to this episode over at http://www.classylittlepodcast.com/show-notes/28, but our episode clocks in at a much healthier 99 minutes, including some segments recorded just for our release. We also edited them separately!

We won't go into our full picks here in the show notes, so for a FULL rundown head over to www.epicfilmguys.com/oscars-2016 and check them out. Also, please let us know YOUR picks for the upcoming awards show! We're not really interested here in "picking the winners," meaning getting our picks 100% right. I think the business of picking Oscar films should be to root for the films you love and want to win. The alternative has always seemed relatively lifeless to me, as the Oscars are extremely easy to pick anyway!

Our guests from the Classy Little Podcast lead things off with some Oscar trivia and fun facts, including why you might want to practice your acceptance speech while holding a human head. Emily has some tips on how to win an Oscar pool whether or not you are a cinephile, and James will talk about some Oscar winners who may have peaked and faded.

Last but not least, in this week's Epic Previews segment, we're going to be reviewing the teaser trailer for Disney's remake of Pete's Dragon, as well as taking a look at the upcoming Ghostbusters documentary "Cleanin' Up the Town" which features interviews from literally everyone involved in the production of both films including the twins who played Oscar- except for Bill Murray and Rick Moranis. What did we think of this development? Stay tuned!

Colossus: Language please, Deadpool.
Deadpool: Oh, suck a cock.

That's right ladies and gentlemen, both myself and Epic Film Guy Justin had a chance to check out the latest game-changing superhero film starring Ryan Reynolds: Deadpool! This review was so big, we simply couldn't do it on our own and have a special guest on the show to talk about the movie. We're proud to welcome long-time listener (and Nick's college friend) Dan Brenic on the show! Dan has long been campaigning for the role of Spider-Man, but has thusfar been overlooked by Marvel and Sony. Maybe we can bump him over the edge!

Along with that, we're also going to talk about Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn's comments that Hollywood will take the success of Deadpool the wrong way. Is he right? Will studios just start jamming out R-rated superhero projects to try to cash in on the "next big thing?" In that vein, word is coming that both Wolverine 3 and the X-Force film will both be rated R, and Spawn is a name that has suddenly popped up in the conversation again with creator Todd McFarlane reporting the script is done, but he has yet to shop the script to studios.

Not to be forgotten, in the Epic Previews segment tonight, we'll be looking at that new Batman v Superman trailer that landed last week, as well as taking a look at the new trailer for season two of Marvel's Daredevil, which features Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. We'll also be discussing the trailer for Pee Wee's Big Holiday, the first feature-length outing for Paul Reubens' iconic character in decades.

"Would that it 'twere so simple." The Epic Film Guys had a chance to check out the latest from the Coen Brothers: Hail, Caesar! This film has divided many film fans and critics as to whether or not this film is a brilliant satire or a meandering collection of shorts without any real purpose. Nick and Justin are here to set you straight with our full review! Starring George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, Alden Ehrenreich, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, and Channing Tatum.

There's been a lot of talk about Batman v Superman recently, with more trailers and footage being released, and producer Charles Roven labeling Batman "Judge, Jury, and Executioner" in the upcoming film. Does this mean Batman is a killer? Nick and Justin will weigh in, as well as touching on Zack Snyder's recent comments that he didn't change Superman from the "true canon." How do you feel about it? Sound off below!

The Super Bowl is in the books for another year, with the Denver Broncos defense coming up big against Cam Newton and the NFL's biggest offense. Noomi Rapace is OUT of the Prometheus sequel, which is now titled Alien: Covenant. This film has certainly stumbled quite a bit on its journey to being the sequel to the Alien prequel, but is this just another reason that this film shouldn't be made? Nick and Justin will discuss the ongoing woes of the Alien franchise. Justin also sounds off about the now-canceled Friday the 13th reboot, and as you can imagine, he is one unhappy horror fan.

Last week, Emily from the Classy Little Podcast joined us to mediate our fan Q&A, but there were so many great questions and we didn't want to leave anyone out. All that, and who would play the Epic Film Guys in a movie about us? Once again we'd like to thank Emily of the Classy Little Podcast for mediating the event for us.

This week in the Epic Previews segment, we'll be taking a look at the trailer for Why Bother: The Movie AKA Cabin Fever, the remake of Eli Roth's 2002's horror film that is being produced by Roth. Is it too soon for this remake? Justin sounds off! We also took a look at the red band trailer for Green Room, starring Patrick Stewart, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, and Alia Shawkat.

The guys had a chance to check out the Oscar-nominated Room, and Epic Film Guy Nick was able to see Saoirse Ronan's Brooklyn this past week. We've got mini-reviews of both films here, and we are leading up to the 88th Academy Awards at the end of the month. Look for us to review those films we haven't seen- and to look back on those we have- before the big show.

To tie into the Academy Awards, we're happy to launch our brand new February challenge! This month we're doing our Oscar winner challenge. Ten best picture winners that you haven't seen; that's all you have to do! Let us know what you've watched and we'll compile all of the films you're watching over at http://www.epicfilmguys.com.

That's right, I said www.epicfilmguys.com!! We officially have a website! In the coming weeks and months we'll be focusing more and more attention over on the website, with some new graphics and the EFG store. For now, head over to the page (still under construction) and check out the new face of the Epic Film Guys!

THANK YOU!!! This week, our entire podcast is dedicated to YOU, the fans, and we'll be answering your questions as part of our Epic Fan Celebration! Without you guys, there would be no Epic Film Guys, so we wanted to take the time to thank you all properly for being part of the show. We've got lots of fun surprises planned for this week's show.

In the Epic Previews segment this week, given our mounting excitement for the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we're discussing the latest TV spots that debuted during the week, one for Batman and one for Superman. Listen as Supes tells Batman to "bury the Bat," and as Bruce Wayne makes his case to Alfred about why Superman must be destroyed. We also take aim at the marketing for Batman v Superman and ask what the hell is going on with it. What happened to that Superman Empire cover? What on Earth is up with that new poster?

We got so many questions we actually had to trim out a big section of the Q&A that will now appear in next week's episode, along with our review of Hail, Caesar and the beginning of our Oscar retrospective. We want to thank everyone for contributing to the show with their questions, and a very big thank you to Emily of the Classy Little Podcast for moderating the event for us. You can listen to their show over at https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/classy-little-podcast/id1019422584. Cheers!

Hollywood's biggest night is set for February 28th, live at 7 PM EST on ABC. In the wake of the nominations last Thursday, the biggest news is just how many people were NOT nominated, and how white all of the nominees are. Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith have already boycotted this year's show, but what is the deeper issue here? The Epic Film Guys discuss #OscarsSoWhite and all of this year's nominees. The 88th Academy Awards are only five weeks away from today! See the full list of nominees at http://oscar.go.com/nominees.

This week in our Epic Previews segment, we'll be dissecting that beautiful 10 Cloverfield Lane trailer that came out of nowhere starring John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. We're also reviewing the hotly anticipated Suicide Squad trailer, which dropped tonight as part of the CW's Dawn of the Justice League special! We'll have our full and immediate reaction to the CW special, including our first look at footage from Wonder Woman. We also got some glimpses at what the Flash and Cyborg will look like in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and some new footage from the March blockbuster. We'll have our full rundown of the entire special here for you tonight!

A new month is fast-approaching with February, and we're announcing our Best Picture Challenge! During the month of February, your challenge is to watch ten Best Picture winners that you have not seen before and let us know what you thought! We'll be posting everyone's entire lists up on our site over at epicfilmguys.wordpress.com. We're also going to touch on our Just 90s January challenge and look ahead at the next two months!

With the new year upon us, it feels appropriate for a new beginning. We are saying goodbye to the Reel Rundown podcast and officially re-branding as the Epic Film Guys Podcast! In terms of content, very little will change; we'll still be bringing you our rants and thoughts on everything film, new and old. We'll continue with our normal segments and challenges, as well as introducing a few new ones from time to time. The rebranding is, instead, making the podcast a much bigger priority for us here. We'll be adding new logos and new music in the weeks to come, and maybe a few other surprises along the way! Stay tuned!

In this episode, we're going to be counting down our best films of 2015! We spent an extra week going to the movies and seeing as many films as we could in order to compile a more complete list. Some of the films on our list are bound to be newer releases, so we promise this list will be spoiler-free! We also briefly touch on some of the worst films we've seen this past year and Justin will list off his biggest disappointments of the year.

A big announcement this week, as your very own Epic Film Guys will be guest-starring on an episode of The Countdown Movie and TV reviews podcast! This has been a long time in the works, and we are thrilled to join Wayne and Paul for their Revenant review and their top ten Leonardo DiCaprio films of all time. The first of many crossovers to come! And, in our Epic Previews segment, we discuss the incredible new Deadpool red band trailer! Along with that, we'll be further-discussing our Just 90s January challenge and updating you on our progress- if any!

A 51-minute "mini-sode" this week as Epic Film Guy Nick flies solo, and we essentially bridge the gap between the Reel Rundown podcast and the re-branded Epic Film Guys podcast next week with our best (and worst!) of 2015 episode. As a nice treat to close out the year for you all, I decided to dip back into our video archives when Justin and I lived near one another and threw in the audio from some of our reviews from the earlier days of the Epic Film Guys. Safe to say that some things have changed, but some remain the same!

We do also discuss our new challenge for the month of January, thanks to listener Jarrod Taylor! We'll be doing "Just 90s January," where we invite you to pick ten films released in the month of January- five you have seen, five you haven't- and give them a watch. That's it! We look forward to more challenges in the future as well as awards season fast-approaches. I'll also take a moment to shout out everyone who participated in our Dust-it-off December challenge, along with our thanks for taking part!

One week ago, our Epic Film Guys were primed with excitement for the opening of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. After the show, the two had vastly different reactions: Justin loved it so much he has since seen it a further two times, and Nick was so disappointed that he scrapped any plans for a repeat viewing. The battleground is set as we provide our full, spoiler-filled review of The Force Awakens

We also look ahead to next week's best of 2015 episode, where we'll be counting down our best (and worst!) of the year. As much as we agree on things sometimes, expect two very different lists. We also discuss the further re-branding of the podcast on this final episode of the Reel Rundown. This week in Epic Previews, we're reviewing trailers for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, and the "spiritual" sequel to Dazed and Confused, Everybody Wants Some

Twelve short hours from the moment this podcast goes live, Nick and Justin will be sitting down for a day that many of us hoped would come after the end of the prequels, and for three years since we learned it was finally going to happen. It has been a long journey and the world is so saturated with Star Wars merchandise that it is probably floating in a ring in orbit! We take one last look at the saga that precedes The Force Awakens with our official rankings of the films, and we'll discuss what we're looking forward to with the next installment in the Star Wars saga. May the Force be with you!

We've also got a lot of trailers to cover in our new segment, Epic Previews! Tonight we're taking a look at the trailers for X-Men: Apocalypse, TMNT: Out of the Shadows, Independence Day: Resurgence, and Star Trek: Beyond. We'll keep this as a regular feature on the podcast so you know where to turn for the latest in film.

The Golden Globe nominations were released in the week since our last show, so we'll be taking a look back at the nominees and what we think of who is on the list, and those that didn't quite make the cut. All this, and we've got some exciting changes to announce for the podcast in 2016, including some crossover news and some new segments we'll be introducing as we go forward. We've got a lot of exciting things to look forward to and we want to thank YOU for your support as we turn in our twenty-fifth episode and we are just under a half year old.

Not to be forgotten, Dust it off December continues! We want to thank everyone that has participated and is still participating in the challenge. Keep us updated on your progress and we'll announce everyone's full lists at the end of the month. Even if you don't hit ten films, the important part is participating! I'll be dusting off some holiday classics in the week leading up to Christmas once all the Star Wars craziness dies down.

Cocktails & Centaurs:

A very happy December to all of our listeners out there! With the start of December we have begun our official countdown to Star Wars Episode VII, and all of our podcasts through the opening weekend will be Star Wars themed in honor of this franchise that we (and so many of you!!) love so much. Tonight, we're rattling off our worst moments from the Star Wars saga. Look for our best and worst characters next week and our best moments, and our FULL lead-up episode before we see The Force Awakens live the night of December 17th! We're both brimming with excitement for the next chapter in the saga, and we hope to hear from all of you about yours as well.

Our original plan was to do the best and worst tonight, BUT, we got derailed by the live premiere of the Batman v. Superman trailer!! We watch it live and react to it for the first time for you guys right here on the podcast. Needless to say, we're over the moon!

Our Never Seen It November challenge has come to an end! We want to thank all of you who participated in the challenge whether you finished or not, the important thing is you took the time to check out a film or films you hadn't had a chance to see before. The votes are in and we are proud to announce our December challenge: Dust-it-off December! Ten films that you've seen before, but not for quite awhile. Dust it off and give it another watch, and see how you feel about it! Same rating? Better? Worse? As usual, let us know what you're watching and we'll shout you out in the podcast.

Justin took a trip to the theater and checked out Creed, the latest film in the Rocky franchise. And, not to be forgotten, Marvel dropped the first full trailer from Civil War! Epic Film Guy Nick hasn't watched it yet, so he takes the opportunity to watch the trailer and comment on it LIVE!

Happy Thanksgiving one and all! This week, we're doing a full review of The Hunger Games Mockingjay: Part II and giving our FINAL update on Never Seen It November! Thank you very much to everyone who participated in the challenge. We then spend a generous portion of the back end talking about our most-hated sequels of all time, and Nick takes the time to rant against a film that many consider a classic.

We're still looking ahead to December and you can STILL vote between now and the end of the month on our December challenge! Will it be the Holiday challenge, or the Dust-It-Off December challenge? Let us know what you want and we'll pick the winner at the end of the month!

My apologies for the audio quality toward the end, it developed this strange echo on the end of Justin's audio and I'm not sure why but I'm sure it's his fault... HAHA!

An epic showdown is on the way in 2020 in the form of King Kong v. Godzilla, which we discussed back in episode 11. It has now been confirmed by WB and Legendary, so monster mayhem is certain!

Bob Kane is getting a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, but Justin has a lot to say about credit where credit is due, and thinks that Bill Finger should get one too!
Speaking of Batman, Nick and Justin discuss their favorite scenes from The Dark Knight, as there's a big one that seems to get overlooked in favor of others.
All this, and Nick laments having watched the god-awful American Psycho 2, and we'd like to hear from you about some future challenges.
