Episode 034 - The Classy Little Oscar Crossover!

Hollywood's biggest night is fast-approaching this Sunday at 7 PM, and the only way to do an event THIS big was to do our biggest episode ever! To do that, we are joining forces with the Classy Little Podcast to discuss everything Oscars in our massive Oscar BLOWOUT! This, however, is more than just a crossover- we're mashing both shows together, so you'll hear your favorite segments from us and some great segments from James and Emily. Also, please let us know YOUR picks for the upcoming awards show! We're not really interested here in "picking the winners," meaning getting our picks 100% right. I think the business of picking Oscar films should be to root for the films you love and want to win. The alternative has always seemed relatively lifeless to me, as the Oscars are extremely easy to pick anyway!

Our guests from the Classy Little Podcast lead things off with some Oscar trivia and fun facts, including why you might want to practice your acceptance speech while holding a human head. Emily has some tips on how to win an Oscar pool whether or not you are a cinephile, and James will talk about some Oscar winners who may have peaked and faded.

Last but not least, in this week's Epic Previews segment, we're going to be reviewing the teaser trailer for Disney's remake of Pete's Dragon, as well as taking a look at the upcoming Ghostbusters documentary "Cleanin' Up the Town" which features interviews from literally everyone involved in the production of both films including the twins who played Oscar- except for Bill Murray and Rick Moranis. Deadpool: Oh, suck a cock.

That's right ladies and gentlemen, both myself and Epic Film Guy Justin had a chance to check out the latest game-changing superhero film starring Ryan Reynolds: Deadpool! This review was so big, we simply couldn't do it on our own and have a special guest on the show to talk about the movie. We're proud to welcome long-time listener (and Nick's college friend) Dan Brenic on the show! Dan has long been campaigning for the role of Spider-Man, but has thusfar been overlooked by Marvel and Sony. Maybe we can bump him over the edge!

Along with that, we're also going to talk about Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn's comments that Hollywood will take the success of Deadpool the wrong way. Is he right? Will studios just start jamming out R-rated superhero projects to try to cash in on the "next big thing?" In that vein, word is coming that both Wolverine 3 and the X-Force film will both be rated R, and Spawn is a name that has suddenly popped up in the conversation again with creator Todd McFarlane reporting the script is done, but he has yet to shop the script to studios.

Not to be forgotten, in the Epic Previews segment tonight, we'll be looking at that new Batman v Superman trailer that landed last week, as well as taking a look at the new trailer for season two of Marvel's Daredevil, which features Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. We'll also be discussing the trailer for Pee Wee's Big Holiday, the first feature-length outing for Paul Reubens' iconic character in decades.

Episode 032 - Hail, Caesar! & Is Batman a Killer?

"Would that it 'twere so simple." The Epic Film Guys had a chance to check out the latest from the Coen Brothers: Hail, Caesar! This film has divided many film fans and critics as to whether or not this film is a brilliant satire or a meandering collection of shorts without any real purpose. Nick and Justin are here to set you straight with our full review! Starring George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, Alden Ehrenreich, Scarlett Johansson, Frances McDormand, and Channing Tatum.

There's been a lot of talk about Batman v Superman recently, with more trailers and footage being released, and producer Charles Roven labeling Batman "Judge, Jury, and Executioner" in the upcoming film. Does this mean Batman is a killer? Nick and Justin will weigh in, as well as touching on Zack Snyder's recent comments that he didn't change Superman from the "true canon." How do you feel about it? The Super Bowl is in the books for another year, with the Denver Broncos defense coming up big against Cam Newton and the NFL's biggest offense. Episode 031 - Brooklyn, Room, and the Q&A Part II

Noomi Rapace is OUT of the Prometheus sequel, which is now titled Alien: Covenant. This film has certainly stumbled quite a bit on its journey to being the sequel to the Alien prequel, but is this just another reason that this film shouldn't be made? Nick and Justin will discuss the ongoing woes of the Alien franchise. Justin also sounds off about the now-canceled Friday the 13th reboot, and as you can imagine, he is one unhappy horror fan.

Last week, Emily from the Classy Little Podcast joined us to mediate our fan Q&A, but there were so many great questions and we didn't want to leave anyone out. This week, sit back and enjoy part two of our Q&A, featuring: an epic rant, favorite chick flicks, and we discuss Darth Vader's place in the upcoming Star Wars: Rogue One. All that, and who would play the Epic Film Guys in a movie about us? Once again we'd like to thank Emily of the Classy Little Podcast for mediating the event for us.

This week in the Epic Previews segment, we'll be taking a look at the trailer for Why Bother: The Movie AKA Cabin Fever, the remake of Eli Roth's 2002's horror film that is being produced by Roth. The guys had a chance to check out the Oscar-nominated Room, and Epic Film Guy Nick was able to see Saoirse Ronan's Brooklyn this past week. Without you guys, there would be no Epic Film Guys, so we wanted to take the time to thank you all properly for being part of the show. We've got lots of fun surprises planned for this week's show.

In the Epic Previews segment this week, given our mounting excitement for the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we're discussing the latest TV spots that debuted during the week, one for Batman and one for Superman. Listen as Supes tells Batman to "bury the Bat," and as Bruce Wayne makes his case to Alfred about why Superman must be destroyed. Hollywood's biggest night is set for February 28th, live at 7 PM EST on ABC. In the wake of the nominations last Thursday, the biggest news is just how many people were NOT nominated, and how white all of the nominees are. Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith have already boycotted this year's show, but what is the deeper issue here? The Epic Film Guys discuss #OscarsSoWhite and all of this year's nominees. This week in our Epic Previews segment, we'll be dissecting that beautiful 10 Cloverfield Lane trailer that came out of nowhere starring John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Episode 027 - The Best of 2015!

With the new year upon us, it feels appropriate for a new beginning. We are saying goodbye to the Reel Rundown podcast and officially re-branding as the Epic Film Guys Podcast! In terms of content, very little will change; we'll still be bringing you our rants and thoughts on everything film, new and old. We'll continue with our normal segments and challenges, as well as introducing a few new ones from time to time. The rebranding is, instead, making the podcast a much bigger priority for us here. We'll be adding new logos and new music in the weeks to come, and maybe a few other surprises along the way! Stay tuned!

In this episode, we're going to be counting down our best films of 2015! We spent an extra week going to the movies and seeing as many films as we could in order to compile a more complete list. Some of the films on our list are bound to be newer releases, so we promise this list will be spoiler-free! We also briefly touch on some of the worst films we've seen this past year and Justin will list off his biggest disappointments of the year.

A big announcement this week, as your very own Epic Film Guys will be guest-starring on an episode of The Countdown Movie and TV reviews podcast! This has been a long time in the works, and we are thrilled to join Wayne and Paul for their Revenant review and their top ten Leonardo DiCaprio films of all time. The first of many crossovers to come! And, in our Epic Previews segment, we discuss the incredible new Deadpool red band trailer! Along with that, we'll be further-discussing our Just 90s January challenge and updating you on our progress- if any!

A 51-minute "mini-sode" this week as Epic Film Guy Nick flies solo, and we essentially bridge the gap between the Reel Rundown podcast and the re-branded Epic Film Guys podcast next week with our best (and worst!) of 2015 episode. As a nice treat to close out the year for you all, I decided to dip back into our video archives when Justin and I lived near one another and threw in the audio from some of our reviews from the earlier days of the Epic Film Guys. Safe to say that some things have changed, but some remain the same!

We do also discuss our new challenge for the month of January, thanks to listener Jarrod Taylor! We'll be doing "Just 90s January," where we invite you to pick ten films released in the month of January- five you have seen, five you haven't- and give them a watch. That's it! We look forward to more challenges in the future as well as awards season fast-approaches. One week ago, our Epic Film Guys were primed with excitement for the opening of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. After the show, the two had vastly different reactions: Justin loved it so much he has since seen it a further two times, and Nick was so disappointed that he scrapped any plans for a repeat viewing. The battleground is set as we provide our full, spoiler-filled review of The Force Awakens!

We also look ahead to next week's best of 2015 episode, where we'll be counting down our best (and worst!) of the year. As much as we agree on things sometimes, expect two very different lists. Twelve short hours from the moment this podcast goes live, Nick and Justin will be sitting down for a day that many of us hoped would come after the end of the prequels, and for three years since we learned it was finally going to happen. It has been a long journey and the world is so saturated with Star Wars merchandise that it is probably floating in a ring in orbit! We take one last look at the saga that precedes The Force Awakens with our official rankings of the films, and we'll discuss what we're looking forward to with the next installment in the Star Wars saga. May the Force be with you!

We've also got a lot of trailers to cover in our new segment, Epic Previews! Tonight we're taking a look at the trailers for X-Men: Apocalypse, TMNT: Out of the Shadows, Independence Day: Resurgence, and Star Trek: Beyond. We'll keep this as a regular feature on the podcast so you know where to turn for the latest in film.

The Golden Globe nominations were released in the week since our last show, so we'll be taking a look back at the nominees and what we think of who is on the list, and those that didn't quite make the cut. All this, and we've got some exciting changes to announce for the podcast in 2016, including some crossover news and some new segments we'll be introducing as we go forward. We've got a lot of exciting things to look forward to and we want to thank YOU for your support as we turn in our twenty-fifth episode and we are just under a half year old.

A week from today, the Epic Film Guys will join millions of people across the country and countless more across the globe as we sit down to watch Episode VII: The Force Awakens! Excitement is at a fever pitch, so we're going to be celebrating EVERYTHING Star Wars in our next two episodes! A very happy December to all of our listeners out there! With the start of December we have begun our official countdown to Star Wars Episode VII, and all of our podcasts through the opening weekend will be Star Wars themed in honor of this franchise that we (and so many of you!!) love so much. Tonight, we're rattling off our worst moments from the Star Wars saga. Look for our best and worst characters next week and our best moments, and our FULL lead-up episode before we see The Force Awakens live the night of December 17th! We're both brimming with excitement for the next chapter in the saga, and we hope to hear from all of you about yours as well.

Our original plan was to do the best and worst tonight, BUT, we got derailed by the live premiere of the Batman v. Superman trailer!! We watch it live and react to it for the first time for you guys right here on the podcast. Needless to say, we're over the moon!

An epic showdown is on the way in 2020 in the form of King Kong v. Godzilla, which we discussed back in episode 11. It has now been confirmed by WB and Legendary, so monster mayhem is certain!

Bob Kane is getting a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, but Justin has a lot to say about credit where credit is due, and thinks that Bill Finger should get one too!

Speaking of Batman, Nick and Justin discuss their favorite scenes from The Dark Knight, as there's a big one that seems to get overlooked in favor of others.

A billion dollars? That's the rumored budget for Marvel's Infinity War Parts 1 & 2, but that number seems a little crazy to the Epic Film Guys. We're back this week drinking some good beer and talking about Daniel Craig's comments about James Bond, Leonardo DiCaprio's chances for Oscar gold with The Revenant, plus we look at Marvel's new post-phase 3 announcement and NYCC.
