Episode 084 - Movie Pod Squad Crossover Blowout!!
Thursday Feb 09, 2017
Thursday Feb 09, 2017
We've taken the rails and we've thrown them so far away that we may never find them again! Justin is taking a week off, so I simply opened the floodgates and invited any and every show from the #MoviePodSquad that was available for recording and they have answered the call! Tonight we are joined by Chris from the More Gooder Than Podcast, Dave and Jay from the Super Movie Bros pod, Shampu from Buds, Beers, Brutality & Fuzzy D from Who Spikes the Puns!
Aside from mainstays such as Thumbs of the Week and What're You Drinkin', we had a plethora of teasers drop during the Super Bowl last night for films coming all throughout 2017. So sit back and enjoy an extended edition of Epic Previews tonight, with discussions about Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, A Cure for Wellness, Baywatch, Ghost in the Shell, Life, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Logan, The Fate of the Furious, Transformers: The Last Knight, and one of our favorite shows from 2016, Stranger Things season 2!
I had an absolute blast recording with all of these guys, and we did record quite a bit more audio, but to keep the show from spilling into 2-1/2 hours I decided to save the AMA we mention during the recording for a later date. Thank you so much for listening! We'll see you at the movies!!

We'd like to give a huge shout-out for a lot of the shows we're proud to call friends, and that we're proud to call ourselves fans of. We especially have to thank our brothers in Perth, Paul & Wayne of The Countdown Movie & TV reviews, who have opened us up to a huge audience halfway across the world. Particular thanks to Paul who has been an amazing friend and has been infinitely helpful in terms of getting honest feedback on the evolution of the show. A huge thank you to Emily from The Story Behind podcast, whose support and friendship have kept this show alive through some of its darkest days. A huge thank you to some of our biggest podcasting friends, from Mr. X at the Angry Old Man, Shane from Now That I'm Older, David from The Unwritable Rant, Adam from Everyone Has a Podcast, Ro from the World of Ro, the entire crew at Afterburn 739, Mat at the One Word, Go! show, Justin from So I Married a Movie Geek, and Deana from the Twisted Philly podcast. We also want to give a huge shout out to the #MoviePodSquad, a group of movie podcasters in the #PodernFamily who have come together for our mutual love of film. Look for even more crossovers and fun events with these and other great podcasters soon!

Episode 083 - Oscar Review MEGASODE!
Thursday Feb 02, 2017
Thursday Feb 02, 2017
This week on the podcast, it is officially February, which means the countdown to the Oscars has begun! As of release day we're 24 days away from Hollywood's biggest night, and tonight it's time to bat clean-up on many of the films that Justin and myself have seen over the past several weeks but haven't had a chance to review. I'll touch on my weekend viewings of Florence Foster Jenkins and Captain Fantastic, and Justin will weigh in with some thoughts on The Founder and Jackie. We're also finally going to jump into a featured review once again on the podcast as we discuss La La Land! As you'll remember this film landed at #1 on Justin's top ten of 2016 and hit my #3, so it's safe to say we absolutely loved it.
We've also got your feedback this week in our Thumbs of the Week segment (final title, I swear!). We also have a plethora of iTunes reviews from the States and abroad, and this week we're also featuring our brand new featured actRESS... Kate Winslet! It was neck-and-neck between Tom Hanks and Arnold Schwarzenegger for the first few days and she had zero votes, but then the Winslet twitter fanbase came out in droves on twitter to register our highest vote count ever!
All this and plenty of other bits of fun and surprises as we roll toward the big show on February 26th. Thank you so much for listening... we'll see you at the movies!!!

Episode 081 - I Want My Money Back, Affleck!
Thursday Jan 19, 2017
Thursday Jan 19, 2017
It's host-swap week! This week, Justin joined Caleb over on the Netflix n' Swill podcast, which you'll be able to hear on the 24th of January, and Dan once again joins me on the show! Not only are we featuring a Patrick Swayze clip this week for our Featured Actor segment, but we both watched a Patrick Swayze film for a bit of a retro review on the podcast with Donnie Darko. Fans of the show will know that Justin and regular listener Dylan Miles have been egging me to watch the film for ages... will they be happy with my reaction to it?
Also this week, we've got tons of your feedback in our Thumbs Up/Down segment, and we read your iTunes reviews! Thank you very much to everyone who submitted reviews. Dan also has his top ten films of 2016 at the top of the show as a tie-in to last week's episode, and he spends a good bit of time lavishing praise upon his #1 film of the year. We also touch on some movie news with your feedback.
Lastly, the second segment of the show is dedicated to a spoiler-free review of the latest from writer/director/star Ben Affleck, Live by Night. If you've already checked out my written review (find the link below), you know that I utterly detested the film, and I'll spend a bit of time elaborating on that in a segment-long edition of Nick's Rants.
Next week we'll be joined once again by Mason of Reel Dude Reviews for our Most Anticipated of 2017 episode. We're also going to be putting the word out shortly looking for a new crossover/mashup opportunity in February. If you're interested in doing a crossover, please let us know! Thank you very much for listening... we'll see you at the movies!!

Episode 080 - The Best of 2016!!
Thursday Jan 12, 2017
Thursday Jan 12, 2017
It's finally time! We've seen all the movies we can possibly pack into our slate to fill out the movie year for 2016 and it's time to count down the best of the best. Justin and myself are here with our top ten films of 2016, as well as a few honorable mentions and some major disappointments. The list won't be without controversy for some listeners I'm sure, but that's us! We are who we are and we love what we love!
Also this week, our newest segment, thumbs up/thumbs down returns with YOUR feedback! We'll be opening this segment up each week for you to weigh in on what deserves a thumbs up or a thumbs down for that particular week. We've also got another Patrick Swayze clip for you this week as our January featured actor segment rolls on. All that and "What're ya Drinkin'?" and the Hobster stumbles his way in from yet another bender. Thank you very much for listening! We'll see you at the movies!!!

Episode 079 - The Month of Swayze Begins
Thursday Jan 05, 2017
Thursday Jan 05, 2017
Happy New Year everyone! With 2017 officially here, Justin's back this week and we're premiering a brand-new segment: Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down! This is the segment where we'll toss a thumbs up or down (obviously) at the news of the day, a specific film, or something else that happened to us over the week. We'll keep tooling it, but it is the first of many new segments that will be premiering in the first couple episodes of the new year.
Though we briefly mentioned it last week, now that Justin is with me on the show we remember Carrie Fisher and her mother, Debbie Reynolds, and Justin talks about a Princess Leia action figure he just had to have and a lightsaber vigil.
We both had the opportunity to check out Fences since the last time we recorded, so we're also going to drop a full review! The film is directed by and stars Denzel Washington and also stars Viola Davis, so needless to say, I get my fanboy on.
All that, and in Epic Previews this week, we're touching on some trailers we didn't get a chance to review since Justin was last on the show- we'll talk about Denis Villaneuve's upcoming Blade Runner 2049, as well as Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant.
Our new featured actor for the month of January has been chosen, and Nick is NOT happy about it. We're here with the first clip for the month of January and a Fanviews voicemail from Justin of "So I Married a Movie Geek!" We'll see you at the movies!

Episode 078 UNCUT - Segment Two (What are rails?!)
Saturday Dec 31, 2016
Saturday Dec 31, 2016
Now FREE for all listeners!!
Another patron-exclusive episode and as you can guess, there's a whole lot of Rick & Morty in this UNCUT version of segment two. If you've listened to the edited version of the podcast you'll know that I whittled segment two down to maybe ten minutes or so, but that's because no matter what we did we just couldn't stop driving this thing off the rails.
We also recorded a special short review of Rogue One for Dan, who wanted his chance to lay into the film a bit since he didn't enjoy it quite as much as any of our roundtable guests. I inserted that into the episode where it was prompted to originally appear; everything else you'll hear is UNCUT! Thank you very much to our amazing patrons, and look forward to more of these amazing exclusives all through 2017!

Episode 078 - Goodbye 2016
Thursday Dec 29, 2016
Thursday Dec 29, 2016
With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, Justin had a really full plate and couldn't make it on to record our final episode of 2016, so very good friend of the show Dan Brenic from the Netflix n' Swill podcast joins me to talk about a whole lot of... random nonsense!
The show begins on a bit of a somber note, as earlier the afternoon of recording day we learned that Carrie Fisher, legendary for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars saga, passed away at the age of 60. We've got some brief thoughts about her and the future of the saga without her, but we're going to be revisiting her next week with a full retrospective and possibly commentary of A New Hope.
After that the rails come completely off the show, as I managed to salvage about 25 minutes of useable audio from nearly an hour of recording, some of which you can hear if you're a sponsor of the Epic Film Guys podcast. We'll talk about changes coming to the Epic Film Guys, what 2017 holds in store for us, and we've also got the final clip from this month's featured actor, Robin Williams. Thank you very much for listening everyone! Have a very happy New Year, and we'll see you at the movies.

Episode 076 - War for the Planet of Baywatch: Homecoming
Thursday Dec 15, 2016
Thursday Dec 15, 2016
Welcome everyone to another week of the Epic Film Guys podcast on Rogue One day! Justin and myself have our tickets for a 7:00 PM showing, so if you're hearing this on release day, we'll soon be in a theater far, far away for the latest installment of the Star Wars franchise: Rogue One! Our excitement is at a fever pitch, and this week we'll talk about our final hopes for the Episode IV prequel. Early word is good, and we hope for something beyond amazing!
Also this week, we're diving into another batch of trailers in Epic Previews! We'll take a look at the re-imagining of Baywatch starring The Rock and Zac Efron, we have some mixed feelings over the new MCU-produced Spider-Man: Homecoming, and we are practically salivating for War for the Planet of the Apes.
We also discuss some DCEU news this week, namely that David Ayer is going to be helming Gotham City Sirens starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. After our reaction to Suicide Squad, are we really sure we want this? All that, and we've got another amazing Robin Williams clip in our Featured Actor segment, and there's a ton of other fun stuff going on. Thanks for listening! We'll see you at the movies!

Episode 075 - Casey Affleck Shines & Baby Groot Rocks!
Thursday Dec 08, 2016
Thursday Dec 08, 2016
Justin had the opportunity to check out Casey Affleck in Manchester by the Sea, and he's got some bold predictions about his performance in a quick mini-review! We also continue the focus on this month's featured actor, the late great Robin Williams, with a clip from the classic Mrs. Doubtfire.
In Epic Previews this week, we're talking about the arrival of the new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Justin expects Nick to hate it... but will he? We also talk about Tom Cruise starring in The Mummy, and wonder why every Transformers film looks the same with the trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight.
Finally, we're saying a fond farewell to the Lisp, a character who has been a part of the Epic Film Guys podcast for most of its existence. We've got a special goodbye for him before we finally announce the winner of the Where in the World is the Lisp prize pack. Thank you very much for listening; we'll see you at the movies!

Thursday Dec 01, 2016
Thursday Dec 01, 2016
We're back this week with an all-new episode, tightening the reins on the format. we've got a lot of great changes coming to the Epic Film Guys podcast in the coming weeks, between our new Spotlight segment and the expansion of our Featured Actor. We also talk Thanksgiving and wish Justin a happy birthday this week! We're also changing the promo format for the show, tightening the breaks and utilizing a new type of promos meant to promote new content each week.
This week in Epic Previews, Justin has a few things to get off his chest regarding the brand new Kong: Skull Island trailer with John C Reilly, and we also discuss the first trailer for Martin Scorsese's Silence. Then we're rolling into the third segment with the announcement of our December Featured Actor! Who is it? Let's just say... You've never had a friend like me.
All this, and we'll talk about a brand-new sponsor for the show, and we try to wish Podern Family a happy one year anniversary, but someone decides to show up and spoil the party. What new ailments does the Hobster have? You'll have to listen to find out! We'll see you at the movies!!

Episode 073 - Batman (1989) Live Commentary!
Monday Nov 21, 2016
Monday Nov 21, 2016
Eight months in the making... way back in Episode 36, during our Burton/Schumaker Batman retrospective, we introduced the first part of our Batman '89 live commentary! We popped the second part into episode 40 in the wake of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, back when we recorded the commentary in March, something went wrong. When I opened the files from Justin I found two part ones, and zero part twos! The second half of the original commentary was lost, and while we mentioned it a time or two, we never got back around to recording that second half... until now.
Now, finally, eight months later, we have re-recorded the lost half of our commentary, and I took the original audio tracks (since I opted to save everything until we finished it) and re-edited them, and re-mixed the tracks with the film's sound. So even if you did hear episodes 36 & 40, you are hearing a brand new edit of the original half, and our all-new recording for part two. The result? An epic celebration that we feel is worthy of our favorite film on the Epic Film Guys podcast.
How do you sync it with the film? EASY! The commentary begins where the film does- so start the commentary at the same time you start the film and enjoy it. We'll be back next week with a brand new episode of the podcast, including the start of a brand new segment and our farewell to the Lisp. Thank you for listening... we'll see you at the movies!!

Episode 072 - Our Arrival Review with L-L-L-Loysauce!
Thursday Nov 17, 2016
Thursday Nov 17, 2016
The self-proclaimed "god of podcasting" has returned home to the main show... Epic Film Guy L-L-L-Loysauce joins myself and Justin for a colossal Arrival review! We kept the main review spoiler-free, but we did also discuss some of the film's spoilers and weightier themes in our spoiler review segment after the main episode ends. We definitely gave this review our all... give it a listen!
Also this week, we're reviewing two trailers in Epic Previews... we take a look at the first trailer for Ghost in the Shell starring Scarlett Johannson and we're also going to check out the first feature trailer for Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast remake starring Emma Watson. We've also got a very special clip in this week's featured actor segment, as Nick discusses his favorite film of all time with a scene from About Schmidt.
The guys also talk about what's coming next week on the podcast, and good news for Where in the World is the Lisp players- you've got until November 20th to get us that final answer for your last chance at winning the Epic Film Guys prize pack created by Emily from The Story Behind. All this and loads of fun... and the return of a drunken distraction that just won't stay gone. Thank you for listening... we'll see you at the movies!!
